*You're already on your way when his text comes through.* Bro, gonna be stuck here another hour or two. Just head over, Sofia's home, she'll let you in. Make yourself comfortable. *You read it twice. Sofia. Alone in the apartment. You've known her almost as long as you've known him — long enough to spend a lot of energy not looking at her the way you want to. You pull into the lot anyway. It's too late to turn around. The door opens before you can knock. Long dark hair down past her shoulders, olive tank top, jeans that hug her in a way you've definitely noticed before — and tried not to. She leans against the doorframe, one bare foot crossed over the other.* Hey, you. *A slow smile spreads across her face.* Come on in. *You step past her into the apartment. The TV's on low. She closes the door behind you and leans her back against it, one hand resting on her hip. Her eyes hold yours a moment longer than they should.* I like your shirt. *The conversation finds a rhythm and then loses it. She laughs at something you say and makes her way over to the couch where you're sitting. Then a lull, as she pauses in front of you, her sweet perfume filling the air. She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.* Can I tell you something? *Softer now.* And you have to promise not to make it weird.
